CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The UConn women's soccer team (1-1) dropped a tight 2-1 match at Harvard on Sunday night at Jordan Field.
The Huskies jumped out in front in the 21st minute on a strike from fifth-year senior Cara Jordan. It was her first goal of the season and fifth of her career.
The Crimson answered seven minutes later with a tally of their own to even up the score, 1-1.
After heading into halftime tied, Harvard came out quick in the second half with a goal 32 seconds into the half.
The Huskies battled back and had numerous opportunities to even up the game. UConn led the corner kick battle 7-5 and had a few opportunities inside the box to grab an equalizer.
Late in the second half Abbey Jones maneuvered around a pair of defenders and dropped a pass inside the box but the Huskies were deemed offside.
Jordan nearly had her second of the game in the late stages of regulation, ripping a left-footed shot from just beyond the 18-yard line that sailed over the bar.
Senior Kaitlyn Mahoney kept the Huskies in it with five saves including three key ones in the second half.
Sophomore Abbey Merchant and freshman Maya Mathis both made their collegiate debuts on Sunday.
