STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (2-1-2) scored five unanswered goals to secure a 5-1 victory against Long Island on Sunday afternoon at Morrone Stadium.

The Huskies conceded a goal at the 5:09 mark of the match but responded from that moment and dominated the remainder of the match.

UConn out shot the Sharks 24-5 and earned 12 corner kicks to just one for its opponent.

Sophomore Maree-Anne Van Doesburg scored on an incredible volley from outside the box that evened the score at a piece. It was the first career goal for the Montreal, Quebec native.

In the 28th minute, freshman Maeve Staunton scored her first of two penalty kick goals to give the Huskies a 2-1 advantage. The brace was the first of Staunton's career and the first two goals on the Bloomfield, Conn. native's career. Staunton closed the game with two goals and an assist.

Se-Hanna Mars notched her first goal of the season the open the second half on a ball served in the box by Staunton that Mars did a nice job to get to before the keeper and bury into the back of the net.

Fifth year Tea Reyes made her first appearance as a Husky on Sunday and came off the bench to tally her first goal. The San Jose, Calif. native capped the scoring for the Huskies as UConn put up its most goals in a game this season.

Along with Reyes, Morgan Mooney and Maddy Anderson made their UConn and collegiate debuts in Sunday's victory.

Next up, the Huskies head back on the road to face West Virginia in Morgantown next Sunday, September 13 at 1 p.m.
