MORGANTOWN, WV - The UConn women's soccer team (2-1-3) scored a top-10 result with a 1-1 draw at No. 8 West Virginia on Sunday afternoon at Dick Dlesk Stadium.

The Huskies had to come from behind after allowing an early goal in the third minute.

Gabby MIller created the first opportunity in the seventh minute running down a pass ahead that led to the Huskies first shot of the game.

Chloe Shimkin had a strong day for the Huskies creating numerous scoring chances with her services in the box. The Rockville Centre, N.Y. native earned the Huskies first corner of the match in the 22nd minute off a blocked shot and then followed it up with a couple great services in the box off a corner kick in the 25th minute that almost led to an equalizer.

Shimkin and the Huskies didn't have to wait long into the second half to even up the score. In the 52nd minute, Shimkin played her corner kick inside the six towards midfielder Jessica Carr who got an initial touch on it before landing at the foot of Maeve Staunton. The freshman was able to redirect the ball into the back of the net and knot the game at one.

For Staunton, it was her third goal in the last two games. The Huskies continued to turn up the pressure in the second half looking for the go-ahead strike.

Sophomore Maree-Anne Van Doesburg nearly did so with a rocket of a shot off her foot in the 70th minute. But the shot was knocked away by the Mountaineers keeper.

UConn outshot the Mountaineers 5-4 in the second half and drew six corners to West Virginia's three.

Ava Yamas came off the bench and made three second half saves to keep the game tied and eventually end in a draw.

Next up, the Huskies head to Cambridge, Mass. to take on Harvard on Sunday, September 20 at 1 p.m.
