Huskies Throttle New Hampshire for Third Consecutive Win

STORRS- Â The UConn women's lacrosse team (6-8, 2-3 BIG EAST) won its third consecutive game, pummeling New Hampshire (4-11, 0-4 America East) 20-7 on Tuesday evening at Morrone Stadium. Eleven Huskies scored in the game, with eight scoring in double-figures. McKenna Merkel led the way with four goals and one assist.
How it Happened:
Libby Boland put the Wildcats on the board first, scoring two minutes into the game. The Huskies responded with a flurry of goals, led by two from Lucia Smigiel and one from Rayea Davis, to take a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Merkel scored two goals in the second, sandwiching a Karsyn Burnash goal, to push the Huskies to a 6-1 lead. Boland scored her second goal of the game, but Ava Palazzolo responded for UConn, giving UConn a 7-2 advantage at the break.
The Husky Express rolled in the third quarter, with two more goals from Merkel and tallies from Anna Magennis and Megan O'Brien, ballooning the UConn lead to 11-2. The hosts scored nine in the third quarter. Emma Dacey scored two goals, Davis and O'Brien each scored their second goals of the evening, and Madison Sweeney found the back of the net, giving UConn a commanding 16-4 lead.
Sweeney capped off the hat trick in the fourth, with Caitlyn Hubiak and Palazzolo scoring goals in the final three minutes, as UConn secured the emphatic home victory after an offensive explosion for the Huskies.
Numbers and Notes:
- The 20 goals were a season-high for the Huskies.
- UConn overwhelmingly won the shot battle, 47-12.
- Dacey and O'Brien each recorded four points.
