HookC Loses In Extras Against Xavier at BIG EAST Championship

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (36-20) lost a heart breaker in 10 innings, 11-8, against the Xavier Musketeers on a rainy Wednesday night at Prasco Park.
The Huskies jumped out to a 6-0 lead with a pair of three-run homers in the first two innings. Tyler Minick hit his 21st home run in the first to make it 3-0 Huskies.
Caleb Shpur followed with his seventh home run of the year to push the UConn lead to 6-0.Â
Oliver Pudvar made the start for UConn and went four innings of work, allowed five runs and struck out seven in a no decision.Â
Ian Cooke came out of the pen and pitched 3.0 innings allowed one run and struck out four.
With the game 8-6 in the top of the eighth, UConn closer Brady Afthim came out of the bullpen and struck out the side in the eighth.
In the ninth, with runners and second and third and two outs, the Musketeers tied the game with a two-run single.Â
UConn placed runners at second and third and two outs in the bottom of the ninth but couldn't walk it off.
Xavier scored three two-out runs in the 10th to take an 11-8 lead and eventual victory.
The Huskies will play an elimination game tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. against St. John's.
