Volleyball Falls to Temple in Four Sets

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – The UConn women's volleyball team fell to Temple 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies fall to 2-4 on the season while Temple improves to 7-4 on the year.
How it Happened
In the first set, Temple got out to an 8-1 lead, forcing the Huskies into an early timeout. Following the break, UConn trailed 12-2 before chipping away at the Temple lead and cutting it to 15-10. Despite a late Husky rally, the Owls would hold onto their lead and win the set 25-xx, taking a 1-0 lead in the match.
The second set was a competitive, back-and-forth set, with Temple holding a 15-13 lead at the midway mark. The Huskies continued to fight back and cut into the Owl lead, calling a timeout trailing 21-17. UConn rallied to bring the score to 24-23 late in the set, but the comeback fell just short as Temple won 25-23 and took a 2-0 match lead.
In need of a set win, UConn was able to open a slight 12-9 lead over Temple. UConn continued to lead throughout the set but used a timeout with a slight 22-21 lead. The Huskies were able to hold off the Owls late push and take the set 25-22, now trailing the match 2-1.
Temple jumped out to a 10-6 lead before a 6-2 UConn run that tied the game 12-12 at the midway point of the set. The Owls went on a 7-3 run to lead 19-15 late in the fourth frame. UConn used another timeout trailing 21-18 to talk things over, but the comeback would fall short as Temple won the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.
Well-Rounded Efforts
The Huskies had another balanced offensive showing on Sunday afternoon, with five players tallying at least eight kills. Junior Caylee Parker recorded her third double-double of the season, leading the team with 13 kills and adding 15 digs. Senior Ally Barrett added 10 kills to the offense. Sophomore Allie Garland tallied nine kills hitting at a .286 clip on the afternoon, adding two digs and two blocks. Junior Kennadie Jake-Turner and redshirt senior Genna Florig recorded eight kills each, with Florig hitting at a .444 clip and Jake-Turner adding seven digs.
Sophomore Madi Whitmire led the Huskies with a season-high 44 assists on the afternoon. Fellow sophomores Mia Ruffolo and Aset Baker-Falealili had double digits digs with 14 and 19, respectively.

UConn will have a few days off after playing three straight matched this weekend. The Huskies are set for two road matches against Providence College on Friday, March 12th at 6:00pm and Saturday, March 13th at 4:00pm.
