UConn Falls to Hofstra in Penn State Invitational Finale

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - UConn (0-3, 0-0 BIG EAST) fell to Hofstra University (2-0, 0-0 CAA) in straight sets, 0-3, on Sunday. Despite the loss, UConn recorded 21 assists and 32 digs in the match.
UConn and Hofstra opened the first set with a closely contested exchange of points. Grace Maria initiated UConn's scoring with a kill, and Helena Einarsdottir added a service ace to level the score at 3-3 early on. Sydney Borowy's back-to-back kills helped the Huskies gain a brief 9-7 advantage.
Courtney Grayson contributed two kills for the Huskies to tie the set at 23-23. However, Hofstra clinched the set 25-23 with consecutive kills from Maria Afonso.
Hofstra capitalized early in the second set, establishing a 7-0 lead. UConn's Grace Maria managed to break the streak with a kill, but Hofstra quickly responded. Despite UConn's efforts to regain momentum, including contributions from Courtney Grayson and Jordyn Hughes, the set was dominated by Hofstra's offensive play.
UConn rallied mid-set with kills from Borowy, Jordyn Hughes, and Maja Daca. The set concluded with Hofstra extending its lead, finishing at 25-11.
In the third set, UConn faced a challenging start as Hofstra gained early momentum, capitalizing on an initial service error and a service ace to take a 3-0 lead. UConn responded with points from a service error and an attack error, narrowing the gap to 3-2
Borowy provided a spark with consecutive kills, assisted by Audrey Jensen, bringing the score to 7-6. Despite the effort, Hofstra pushed their advantage to 15-8 through a series of kills.
Maria and Einarsdottir attempted to keep the Huskies within reach with timely kills, but the set concluded with Hofstra securing a 25-14 win.
Borowy led UConn with seven kills and contributed three block assists. Grayson added five kills and two block assists. Hazuna Akishige recorded 10 digs, while Isabella Sohl facilitated the offense with 12 assists and collected four digs.
