High Point Holds Off UConn in Five-Set Thriller

STATE COLLEGE, Pennsylvaniaย โย UConn women's volleyball fell to High Point, 3-2, on Friday evening, dropping a five-set battle 26-24, 25-27, 25-23, 17-25, 15-13.ย
The first set featured a back-and-forth battle, with UConn receiving kills from Grace Maria, Sydney Borowy, Olivia Grenadier and Helena Einarsdottir. The Huskies battled back late, but High Point closed out the set, 26-24.ย
UConn answered in the second set with a dramatic comeback, overcoming a 21-15 deficit. Courtney Grayson delivered consecutive kills late, while Grayson and Helena Einarsdottir combined for a key block to tie the set at 24-24. Maja Daca then sealed the 27-25 victory with a service ace.ย
High Point regained the lead with a 25-23 third-set victory. UConn opened the frame strong, taking an 8-4 lead behind an ace from Grace Maria and kills from Sydney Borowy and Olivia Grenadier. The Huskies later rallied from a 13-9 deficit to take a 17-16 lead, but High Point closed the set late.ย
UConn dominated the fourth set, winning 25-17 to force a deciding frame. Maja Daca recorded back-to-back aces during a key 6-11 to 6-14 run, while Helena Einarsdottir and Courtney Grayson provided kills to help the Huskies pull away.ย
The Huskies held an early 5-2 advantage before High Point rallied to take a 10-8 lead. UConn answered with a three-point run to go ahead 11-10, but High Point regained control and finished with a 15-13 victory.ย
Einarsdottir led UConn with 17 kills and 13 digs, while Maria added 16 kills, 12 digs and three aces. Grayson finished with 12 kills and 14 digs, and Borowy added 12 kills. Sohl recorded 51 assists and nine digs, while Daca contributed eight aces.ย
The Huskies will play Penn State tomorrow at 4pm.
