No. 3 Huskies to Travel to No. 11 Michigan, No. 25 Michigan State

STORRS, Conn. – The No. 3 UConn field hockey team (4-0) faces two more ranked teams as the Huskies take on No. 11 Michigan (2-2) and No. 25 Michigan State (3-1) this weekend. UConn travels to the Wolverines at 6 p.m. Friday and competes at the Spartans on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Last Time Out
The Huskies moved to 4-0 with a 3-0 win over No. 6 Harvard Sunday. Sophomore Abby Gooderham, freshman Marie Auer and freshman Sophie Hamilton each scored vs. the Crimson. Redshirt sophomore Cheyenne Sprecher made five saves and notched her second straight shutout.
Sprecher Earns Weekly Honors
Redshirt sophomore Cheyenne Sprecher was tabbed the BIG EAST and NFHCA Defensive Player of the Week. Sprecher made 11 saves in two shutouts over ranked opponents in a 2-0 weekend for the No. 4 Huskies. Against No. 19 Rutgers, Sprecher made six saves, including four in the third quarter to preserve a 2-0 victory. Against No. 6 Harvard, Sprecher made five saves.
This is the second consecutive week a Husky has won both honors as senior Antonia Tiedtke earned them last week.
Scouting the Wolverines
Michigan is coming off a 4-2 loss to No. 1 North Carolina and a 3-0 win over No. 10 Wake Forest in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Meg Dowthwaite leads the Wolverines with three goals and is tied with Kathyrn Peterson with seven points each. Anna Spieker has played every minute in goal and holds a 1.85 goals-against average and .467 save percentage.
Scouting the Spartans
Michigan State beat UC Davis 2-1 in overtime last Friday before falling to No. 12 Louisville, 4-1, last Sunday. Nienke Bloemsaat and Lia Sinisi each have three goals to lead the team while Bloemsaat paces the Spartans with eight points. Jade Arundell has played each game in goal and holds a 1.20 goals-against average and .833 save percentage.

UConn moved up one spot to No. 3 in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll.
The Huskies have opened the season with four straight ranked opponents and continues the streak this weekend against No. 11 Michigan and No. 25 Michigan State.
Huskies Picked to Win BIG EAST
For the 10th straight season, UConn was picked to win the BIG EAST in the preseason coaches' poll. Senior forward Svea Boker was tabbed the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Boker was joined on the preseason All-BIG EAST tea by redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Cheyenne Sprecher, sophomore back Lindsay Dickinson, senior back Antonia Tiedtke and junior forward Jessica Dembrowski.
