UConn Tripped Up By Delaware, 17-9

STORRS, Conn. – Junior Olivia Miles had four goals but UConn women's lacrosse (1-8) fell, 17-9, to Delaware in the first ever meeting between the two teams at the Mark R. Shenkman Training Center on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Caitlin Leary and freshman Lia LaPrise each added a pair of goals, senior Dani Dunn found the back of the net once, and junior goalkeeper Grace Beshlian made 5 saves for the Huskies. LaPrise also finished the afternoon with a team-high four assists.
UConn was within striking distance of the Blue Hens early in the second half, trailing 10-6, after Olivia Miles goal at 23:52 made it a four goal game.
But Delaware went on two multiple-goal runs to put the game out of reach.
Leary put the Huskies on the board at 20:01, beating Delaware goalkeeper Kate Brewster and slotting one home to break UConn through and make the score 5-1. The Blue Hens would lead by as many as seven in the first half, but LaPrise cashed in on her opportunity in front of the net to bring the Huskies within five heading into halftime.
Leary notched her second goal of the afternoon less than a minute into the second, cutting the UConn deficit to four, but Delaware scored eight of the next 10 goals to grab control of the game. Olivia Miles completed her hat trick at 7:10 and then netted her fourth of the game at 4:27, but the Blue Hens left with a 17-9 triumph.
