UConn Tripped Up in Road Match at SMU

DALLAS, Texas – Back on the road for the second time in three games, UConn men's basketball fell to SMU, 77-59, Thursday night at Moody Coliseum. UConn sees its record draw even at 13-13, while SMU improves to 13-12.
Sophomore Tyler Polley led the Huskies with 19 points, while junior Christian Vital pitched in 14. Eric Cobb posted a team high six rebounds and Josh Carlton led UConn with two blocks.
Back-and-forth action kicked off the first half, with UConn taking an early 19-18 lead after 12 minutes when Polley knocked down a triple. The Mustangs went on a run to push the advantage to double digits, but a midrange jumper by Alterique Gilbert brought UConn back within eight, 36-28, with under two minutes to go in the period.
UConn trailed by eight at the intermission, and remained within single digits in the early stages of the second half. The offense went cold over the next five minutes as the Mustangs regained a double digit advantage. The Huskies went on an 11-1 run to make a late push, but SMU responded to secure the victory.

- Polley (19) and Vital (14) led the Huskies in scoring
- Redshirt sophomore Alterique Gilbert made his return for the Huskies after missing the last five games.

UConn will honor the 20th anniversary of its first NCAA National Championship during its game against Cincinnati, set for Sunday, Feb. 24, at the XL Center in Hartford. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tipoff and will be televised by ESPN.
