UConn Hosts Temple, Travels to Houston

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn volleyball team (9-15, 3-9 American) will host the Temple Owls at Gampel Pavilion on Friday, November 8th at 12:00pm before heading to Houston for the last road trip of the regular season. The Huskies are set to take on the Cougars at 2:00pm (ET) on Sunday, November 10th.
Scouting the Owls
Temple (11-12, 2-10 American) enters the weekend following two road losses. The Owls dropped games against Cincinnati (3-0) and East Carolina (3-0) last weekend and have lost six of their last seven games. The Huskies faced the Owls earlier in the year and took a 3-1 victory in Philadelphia. Gem Grimshaw leads Temple with 193 kills on the season, tallying 2.92 kills per set. Tyler Lindgren bolsters the attack with a team-high 629 assists and 8.99 assists per set. The Owl defense is led by Averi Salvador, who has recorded 360 digs and 4.74 digs per set, and Kayla Spells, who has tallied a team-high 62 total blocks this season.
Scouting the Cougars
Houston (15-12, 9-3 American) enters the weekend after a split last time out. The Cougars fell to Tulsa (3-1) before closing out the weekend with a win over Wichita State (3-0). Sunday will be the first matchup between the Huskies and the Cougars this season. Megan Duncan leads the Houston attack with 297 kills this season, averaging 2.88 kills per set. Abby Irvine aids the offense with a team-high 908 assists and 8.41 assists per set on the year. Katie Karbo anchors the defense with a team-high 582 digs and 5.15 digs per set, while Rachel Tullos leads the Cougars with 141 total blocks this season.
Last Time Out
The Huskies are coming off two road losses last weekend. UConn fell to East Carolina (3-0) and Cincinnati (3-2). The Huskies fell to 0-2 against both the Pirates and Bearcats this season. Freshman Jasmine Davis led UConn with 22 kills and 2.75 kills per set at the weekend, adding 24 digs and 3.00 digs per set. Sophomore Kennadie Jake-Turner hit at a team-high .293, tallying 19 kills and 2.38 kills per set. R-Junior Genna Florig provided help on both sides of the court with nine kills, two service aces, and 10 total blocks. R-Sophomore Courtney Morris bolstered the Husky offense with 76 assists and 9.50 assists per set. Morris also contributed to the UConn defense with 24 digs and 3.00 digs per set.

UConn closes out the regular season with a pair of home games next week against USF and UCF. The Huskies take on the Bulls on Thursday, November 14th at 7:00pm at Gampel Pavilion. The Knights come to Storrs for an afternoon matchup on Saturday, November 16th at 12:00pm at Gampel Pavilion.
