Huskies Return to Gampel to Close 2019 Season

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn volleyball team will play its final games of the season and final American Conference games this week. The Huskies (11-15, 5-9 American) face the USF Bulls (7-21, 1-13 American) on Thursday, November 14th at 7:00pm at Gampel Pavilion. UConn will take on the UCF Knights in the season finale on Saturday, November 16th at 12:00pm at Gampel.

Thursday night's game against USF is Lace It Up Night at Gampel Pavilion. Lace It Up began in 2011, helping children with cancer achieve their goals. $4 of every $5 pair of gold laces and 100% of donations go toward helping children with cancer and their families. To donate, go to go4thegoal.org.
Saturday afternoon's game is the Bleed Blue Game! #BleedBlue t-shirts will be available while supplies last. The Huskies are also excited to have Team Impact player Elsa Nocton join the team against UCF. Lastly, two tickets to the men's basketball game against Florida on Sunday, November 17th will also be available at Saturday's game. Fans must be in attendance and enter to win!
Scouting the Bulls
South Florida opened conference play with a victory over Temple (3-0), but have since lost 13 straight conference games, including two last weekend against Cincinnati (3-0) and East Carolina (3-1). The Bulls and Huskies met earlier this season in Tampa, where UConn came away with the win (3-0). The USF attack is led by Lindsey Pliapol who has tallied 310 kills and 3.07 kills per set on the season. Lauren LaBeck aids the offense with a team-high 689 assists and 7.57 assists per set. CC Clausen leads the Bulls defense with 407 digs and 3.88 digs per set on the year. Ally Barnhart leads the team with 87 total blocks and 1.00 blocks per set.
Scouting the Knights
Central Florida comes to Gampel following a weekend split last time out. The Knights defeated East Carolina (3-0) before falling to Cincinnati (3-1). The Huskies and Knights met earlier in the year, where UCF took a 3-0 victory. McKenna Melville leads the UCF offense with 423 kills and 4.45 kills per set on the year. Erin Olson bolsters the attack with 540 assists and 5.74 assists this season. The Knights defense is led by Makenzie Kuchmaner with 361 digs and 3.80 digs per set, with three other Knights have over 200 digs on the year. Anne-Marie Watson has also tallied a team-high 120 total blocks and 1.26 blocks per set this season.
Last Time Out
The Huskies return to action after a weekend sweep last time out. UConn opened with a win over Temple (3-1) on Friday afternoon at Gampel before taking down Houston (3-2) in Texas on Sunday afternoon. Freshman Jasmine Davis led the Huskies with 32 kills, including a career-high 22 against Houston, 3.56 kills per set, 29 digs, and 3.22 digs per set. Sophomore Kennadie Jake-Turner tallied 28 kills, 3.11 kills per set, hit at .290, and added five blocks on the weekend. Fellow sophomore Anna Petrova recorded 25 kills, including a career-high 18 against Houston, 3.12 kills per set, five service aces, and 18 digs. Junior Ally Barrett helped on both ends of the court, recording 10 kills, 25 digs, and four blocks over two games. Freshman Madi Whitmire tallied a team-high 83 assists and 10.38 assists per set, while fellow freshman Mia Ruffolo added 24 digs over the weekend.
