Huskies to Battle Georgetown in BIG EAST Tourney Thursday Night

DENVER, CO - The UConn women's lacrosse team is the No, 2 seed in the BIG EAST Championship presented by JEEP and is set to face the No. 2 seeded Georgetown Hoyas on Thursday night at Denver's Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.Â
The Huskies and Hoyas are the second semifinal of the night at 9 pm EST, following top-seeded Denver and No. 4 seed Marquette in the day's first semifinal at 6 pm EST. Both seminfinal match-ups are available on ESPN+.
Post Season Honors
For the second-straight season, junior Abby Beran was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. Beran is the third Husky to win BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, and with back-to-back honors, she becomes just the fourth recipient in program history. She follows Cassie Ekstrom (2018) and Lauren Kwasnowski (2015). She leads the BIG EAST in ground balls per game, averaging 4.44 with 71 total during the regular season. She also leads the conference in caused turnovers per game, averaging 3.75 with 60 total.
Beran was joined by r-senior Rayae Davis on the All-BIG EAST first team while senior Barlow Clark-Schoeb and sophomore Megan O'Brien where both named to the second team.
Last Time Out
The UHuskies posted a 12-10 win over the Marquette Golden Eagles in the regular season finale at Morrone Stadium on Saturday afternoon, clinching a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament for the sixth-straight season. The Huskies never trailed on Saturday as they end the regular season at 7-9 overall and 3-3 in the BIG EAST. Megan O'Brien scored a career-high five goals and added an assist to lead the UConn offense. Lucia Smigiel finished with three goals for the Huskies while Hadley Bethke added a pair with an assist.
Opponent Research
The Hoyas are coming off an 11-5 loss in the regular season finale to Denver in what was a match-up for the BIG EAST regular season crown. Anna McGovern led the Hoyas offensively with two goals while Molly Davis paced the team with a goal and two assists. Graduate goalkeeper Leah Warehime anchored the defense with 12 saves against 28 Denver shots.
Series History
The Hoyas lead the all-time series, 20-9. UConn had four-straight meeting coming into this spring's match-up but Georgetown put an end to it with an 18-7 win at home. The two teams have met three times in the BIG EAST Tournament before with the Huskies knocking out the Hoyas in the 2015 and 2021 tournaments.
