TYSONS, Va. - The UConn baseball team (23-20, 8-5 BIG EAST) exploded for a 14-2 victory in its series opener at Georgetown (22-20, 4-6 BIG EAST) on Friday night at Capital One Park.

Maddix Dalena led the way for the UConn offense with a four-hit, two-homer night that featured a career-high nine runs batted in.

Dalena started the scoring in the first after the Huskies made Georgetown starter JT Raab work in the opening frame with 43 total pitches thrown. After walks to Cam Righi and Nater Wachter set up Dalena to deliver a two-out, three-run home run to dead center field.

In the second, the Huskies continued to apply pressure with Rob Rispoli hitting his first home run of the season to lead off the frame. The Huskies then the bases with two outs and Dalena came through again with a two-run single to extend the lead to 6-0.

The senior captain, Dalena, added to the lead in the fourth with his second three run homer of the night with an opposite field blast to push the UConn lead to 11-0.

LHP Charlie West earned his fourth victory of the year with 8.0 strong innings of work that featured 13 strikeouts. The junior hurley notched his third-straight double digit strikeout game and has worked into the seventh inning or later in all five BIG EAST starts.

Next up, the series resumes tomorrow at 12 p.m. with Cayden Suchy on the mound for the Huskies.

Jackson Marshall extended his hit streak to a team-best 17 games with his 24th multi-hit effort of the season.
Maddix Dalena posted nine RBI on Friday, becoming the first Husky to drive in nine runs since Paul Tammaro drove in nine in a rubber game victory vs. St. John's on April 14, 2024.
Charlie West has struck out 37 batters in 22.2 innings in his last three starts.
After hitting one home run in the previous nine games, the Huskies busted out for five home runs on Friday.
