Four-Goal Second Period Propels No. 6 UConn Over Boston College

STORRS, Conn. – No. 6 UConn women's hockey defeated the Boston College Eagles, 6-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. Five Huskies found the back of the net as UConn moves to 14-5-1 in Hockey East play and 21-7-2 overall this season.
UConn goaltender Tia Chan was outstanding in net for the Huskies, recording 45 saves, three shy of tying her season high (10/17 vs Princeton). This is Chan's fifth 40+ save performance this season.
The first period between the Huskies and Eagles was a defensive struggle with both goaltenders making key saves, keeping the game scoreless through the opening period. UConn had the period's lone power play opportunity but could not capitalize. Shots favored the Huskies in the first period, 25-14.
UConn took control early in the second period as Ashley Allard scored 34 seconds into the period, her seventh of the season, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
Boston College responded with a goal midway through the second period, knotting the score at 1-1.
Just a few minutes later, the Huskies regained the lead for good on a power-play goal by True Thompson, her fourth of the season, making it 2-1.
Megan Woodworth then extended UConn's lead to 4-1, scoring twice to close out the second period. Woodworth's first goal came just 16 seconds after Thompson's go-ahead goal. Her second goal came with just over a minute left in the period, marking her second multi-goal game this season. Woodworth now has a team high 13 goals this season.
In the third period, the Huskies extended their lead with a goal by Sadie Hotles six minutes in, her fifth of the season, making it 5-1.
Julia Pellerin added UConn's sixth goal of the game just a few minutes later, her 10th of the season, giving the Huskies a commanding 6-1 lead.
Boston College added a goal with under a minute remaining in the third, marking the final scoreline, 6-2.
The Huskies outshot Boston College 58–47, achieving a season-high 58 shots. UConn held a 35–27 edge on faceoffs, maintaining control throughout the game. On special teams, the Huskies went 1-for-4 on the power play, while effectively killing both penalties without allowing a power-play goal.
