No. 6 Huskies Surge Past New Hampshire

DURHAM, N.H. – No. 6 UConn women's hockey the New Hampshire Wildcats, 3-1 on Friday afternoon at the Whittemore Center. With the win, the Huskies secured the No. 2 seed in the Hockey East Tournament currently holding a 15-5-1 record in conference play. UConn improves to 22-7-2 overall this season.
UConn goaltender Tia Chan was stout throughout, making 21 saves, earning her 21st win of the season.
The first period began with UConn quickly taking control as junior forward Ashley Allard opened the scoring just 72 seconds in, her eighth goal of the season, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
Midway through the first period, the Huskies capitalized on a power play opportunity with junior forward Livvy Dewar doubling the Huskies lead with her eighth goal of the season, making it 2-0.
The opening period concluded with the Huskies holding a 2–0 lead. Shots favored UConn in the first period, 10-8.
UConn extended its lead to 3-0 midway through the second period with a goal by Sadie Hotles, her sixth of the season. This goal marked the beginning of a standout performance for Hotles, who achieved a season-high of 2 goals in the game, her second career multi-goal performance.
New Hampshire responded with a goal to close out the second period, narrowing the deficit to 3-1. Shots were even at seven a piece in the second period.
UConn expanded its lead over New Hampshire in the third period with two late goals. With under five minutes left in the final period, senior forward Megan Woodworth netted her third goal in her last two games, scoring her team-leading 14thgoal of the season.
Just 40 seconds later, Hotles found the back of the net for her second goal of the game, making it 5-1.
The Huskies outshot New Hampshire 24–22 and held a commanding 32–16 advantage in faceoffs. On special teams, UConn went 1-for-2 on the power play, while New Hampshire was held scoreless on two opportunities. Both teams recorded 10 blocked shots, and each had four penalty minutes in the game.
