No. 23 Lacrosse Welcomes UMass to Storrs on Saturday

STORRS-Â UConn women's lacrosse kicks off March with a showdown against the University of Massachusetts Minutewomen Saturday afternoon at Morrone Stadium. Last season, UMass won the matchup 19-9 in Amherst on April 17th.Â
No. 23 UConn Snapshot (3-2)
The Huskies dropped a heartbreaker on Wednesday night, falling to No.24 Harvard 13-12 in overtime in their first road contest of the season. In the loss, UConn got balanced offensive production, with eight different players scoring a goal. Eliza Bowman was the leading goal scorer for UConn, scoring three goals to bring her season total to 12. Bowman has scored in every game this season. Rayea Davis notched four points, with two goals to continue her impressive start to the season, leading the team with 18 goals. Jenna Giardina recorded another multi-point game, with three assists against Harvard. Giardina has multiple points in every game this season.
The UConn defense was active as well, with a season-high 32 ground balls as a squad, highlighted by Meghan Lane's season-high seven. BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week Riley Daly had six draw controls, two ground balls, and caused one turnover on Wednesday. Tori Cini made eight saves in the defeat as well.
UMass Snapshot (2-2)
UMass arrives in Storrs winners of their last two games, after starting the season in an 0-2 hole. The Minutewomen dropped their season opener to Dartmouth and fell to No.1 BC before bouncing back with wins over LIU and Holy Cross. UMass is led by Jordan Dean, an Inside Lacrosse Preseason First Team All-American. Last season, Dean broke the NCAA single season record for draw controls with 261. Dean leads the team with 29 draw controls this season. Catrina Tobin has started all four games for UMass in goal, making 26 saves on the year.Â
Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw leads UMass in goals (11) and points (16). Preseason All-A10 Selection Kassidy Morris has double digit goals (10) and leads the Minutewomen with 36 shots.Â
Jana Drummond is the UMass head coach, in her third season with a 31-10 record at the helm. Drummond's assistant coach, Lia LaPrise, starred at UConn from 2019-2023. LaPrise holds the program record in assists (130) and points (286).Â
