HookC Comes Back From Nine Runs Down, Lose 15-12 at Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. – The UConn baseball team (2-3) came back from nine runs down but ultimately fell 15-12 to the California Golden Bears (5-1) on Saturday afternoon at Evans Diamond.
Trailing 12-3 after four innings the Huskies scored nine unanswered runs to even the score at 12-12.
The Huskies posted a season-high five runs in the fifth inning that sent 10 batters to the plate. Korey Morton, Tyler Minick and Matt Garbowski each drove in a run while Bryan Padilla, in his 2024 debut, delivered a two-run single to make it 12-8.
As part of his first career five-hit day, Morton followed in the sixth inning with a three-run moon shot to move the deficit to 12-11.
Jake Studley evened the score in the seventh, 12-12, with his third home run of the season and second of the series.
Matt Malcom hit his first career home run as a Husky in his first at bat of the season to get the Huskies on the board in the third.
Padilla recorded three hits in his first game back from injury and made his first career start at second base in his 121st game at UConn.
UConn looks to salvage the series against Cal on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET / 1:05 p.m. PT.

· After scoring 11 runs in the first four games of the season, the Huskies scored a season-high 12 runs on Saturday.
· Korey Morton recorded his first career five-hit game.
· Matt Malcom and Caleb Shpur made their first career starts at UConn and both registered their first career hits.
