Women's Soccer To Face Hofstra In NCAA First Round

It was announced today by the NCAA that the UConn Huskies will travel to Boston College to face Hofstra in the NCAA Tournament First Round. The winner of the UConn vs. Hofstra game will face the winner of the Boston College/Boston University match. The NCAA First Round will be played on Friday with the Second Round on Sunday. UConn will face Hofstra at 7 p.m. The winners will face in the NCAA Second Round at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 14.
UConn owns a 10-9-3 record overall. Hofstra stands at 18-2 on the season. The Pride fell in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship, 2-0, to James Madison. Hofstra is currently ranked No. 23 in the latest Soccer America poll. UConn is undefeated in four games against Hofstra with a 3-0-1 mark all-time. The Huskies last faced Hofstra in 2008, earning a 1-0 victory. This will be the first NCAA Tournament meeting between the two schools.
UConn was placed in the Portland Region with a pair of familiar opponents.
Boston College, ranked No. 16 in the latest Soccer America poll, owns a 13-6-1 mark overall. The Eagles fell to Maryland, 1-0, in overtime of the ACC Semifinals. UConn owns a 2-1-1 mark against Boston College in the NCAA Tournament. Last season, UConn fell in the NCAA Second Round, 2-0. All-time, UConn owns a 26-6-3 mark against the Eagles.
Boston University is riding a 13-game shutout streak en route to the America East Championship. BU owns a 16-5-0 mark and is ranked No. 17 in the latest Soccer America poll. Earlier this season, UConn lost at BU, 3-0. The Huskies ended the Terriers' season in 2009 with a 1-0 victory in double overtime in the NCAA First Round. UConn stands at 4-3-0 all-time against BU.
UConn and Hofstra will play at 7 p.m. while BC and BU will play at 4 p.m. The winners will take the field on Sunday at 1 p.m. All games will be played at the Newton Soccer Field in Newton, Mass.
