STORRS, Conn. - The first women's soccer Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) is out and the University of Connecticut ranks 11th among the 300-plus Division I women's soccer teams in the nation.
The Huskies are currently 9-3-0 on the season and have played against a couple of top-10 teams over the course of the season recording a 1-1 record. UConn fell by a goal to then-No. 8 Penn State in their second game of the year and dominated then-No. 8 Wake Forest, 4-2.
UConn is the highest ranked BIG EAST team in the RPI just out of the top-10. The ACC and Pac-10 control most of the top spots. North Carolina (1), Florida State (4), Virginia Tech (7) and Boston College (9) represent the ACC while Stanford (2), UCLA (8) and Arizona State (10) hail from the Pac-10.
The RPI is a measure of a team's season performance and is a tool that is used to determine which 64 teams qualify for the NCAA tournament.
A team's RPI is a sum of three values: 25% of the team's winning percentage, 50% of its opponents' average winning percentage (strength of schedule), and 25% of its opponents' opponents' average winning percentage (opponents' strength of schedule).
