Burke Named Women's Lacrosse All-American

STORRS, Conn. (May 29, 2007) - Shannon Burke (Camillus, N.Y.) has reached yet another unprecedented mark in University of Connecticut women's lacrosse history, as she earned Second Team All-America honors by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coach's Association (IWLCA) and US Lacrosse Wednesday - the day after the graduated senior midfielder appeared in section.
Burke becomes the third Husky player to be recognized as an IWLCA All-American, following in the steps of Pam Lowie (2002) and Tracy Mullaney (2005), who each garnered Third Team recognition.
She finished her four-year career at UConn as the school record-holder for assists and points in a game (seven and 10, respectively), a season (58, 100) and for a career (103, 245). Burke led the team in scoring each of the last two seasons, tallying at least one goal in each of the last 54 games of her career - a mark that stood as the longest active streak at season's end.
As a senior, she also led the NCAA in assists per game (3.63) and was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year after appearing on the all-conference team each of the last three years.
Burke graduated in May with a degree in in human development and family studies.
The IWLCA and US Lacrosse honored a total of 48 student-athletes in Division I with a selection on one of the All-American teams. These athletes will be honored at the National All-Americans awards banquet on June 16, 2007, in King of Prussia, Pa.
