Nine-Run 5th Propels HookC To BIG EAST Championship Berth

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The UConn baseball team (29-22, 12-5 BIG EAST) defeated Seton Hall, 13-1, to clinch a BIG EAST Championship berth on Saturday evening.
The Huskies struck first with three runs across in the second courtesy a Maddix Dalena solo home run to lead off the frame and a pair of two-out single from Chase Taylor and Peyton Jemison.
With a runner on and one out in the bottom of the third, the teams entered a rain delay that lasted nearly an hour.Â
When the game resumed the Huskies blew the game open with a nine-run fifth inning that featured 14 UConn batters.
Jackson Marshall delivered a pair of two-run doubles in the frame while Nater Wachter (RBI Double), Chris Polemeni (Two-Run Single), Chase Taylor (RBI Single) and Anthony Belisario (RBI Single) added to the scoring.
Charlie Hale earned his seventh win of the season after coming in for an injured Cayden Suchy in the third inning with one out. Hale pitched 5.2 innings and allowed just one run and struck out seven.
Next up, the Huskies go for a road series sweep on Sunday at 12 p.m.
