Huskies Shutout Georgetown, Secure Series Win

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The UConn softball team blanked the Georgetown Hoyas, 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex. The Huskies clinched the series win over the Hoyas, improving to 17-6 in BIG EAST play and 27-25 overall this season.
Redshirt-junior Sydnee Koosh made her 13th start of the season for the Huskies. Koosh was outstanding in the circle, tossing 6.0 scoreless innings, giving up five hits with a pair of strikeouts, earning her sixth win this season.
UConn jumped out to an early lead in the top of the 2nd inning, scoring two runs on a pair of hits to take a 2-0 lead. Ava Calciano plated the game's first run with a double off the left center field wall, scoring Kaitlyn Breslin all the way from first base. Two batters later, Caylee De Meo brought Calciano home with a sacrifice fly to center field, doubling the Huskies lead.
UConn extended its lead in the top of the 5th inning, plating a pair of runs on four hits. Savannah Ring executed a bunt squeeze, scoring pinch runner Bella Cefola from third base to make it 3-0. The Huskies offense continued to string together hits to load the bases for the middle of the order. Calciano drove in her second RBI of the game with a hit by pitch, forcing home Ring from third base, pushing the UConn lead to 4-0.
Sophomore Amber Bretton came on to close out the win in the bottom of the 7th inning, making her 19th appearance of the season. Bretton secured the final three outs, earning her first save of the season, and giving UConn the series win over Georgetown.
