STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (30-23, 13-5 BIG EAST) wraps the regular season with a three-game series against Villanova (18-28, 4-14 BIG EAST) at Elliot Ballpark beginning on Thursday, May 14 at 6:05 p.m. Friday's middle game of the series is slated for 6:05 p.m. and ends with Senior Day on Saturday, May 16 at 1:05 p.m.
The Huskies enter this weekend's series in a three-way tie for first place in the BIG EAST standings with St. John's and Xavier. If the Huskies sweep the series regardless of results, UConn would clinch at least a share of its sixth-straight BIG EAST regular season title. The Huskies have already clinched a spot to the four-team BIG EAST Championship and depending on results this weekend they can finish as high as the No. 1 seed and as low as the No. 4Â seed.Â
UConn is coming off a road series sweep at Seton Hall and has won seven-straight BIG EAST contests and winners of 10 out its last 13 games overall.Â
LHP Charlie West enters the weekend just one strikeout away from joining the 100 strikeout club. He would join Cayden Suchy (101) as just the second UConn duo in program history to register 100 strikeout seasons in the same year (Pat Gallagher and Austin Peterson, 2022).Â
Jackson Marshall enters the weekend with 79 hits tied for 11th in the nation. The sophomore first baseman leads the team with a .382 AVG with 18 doubles, 14 home runs and 56 runs batted in.Â
For Villanova, Collin Quintano leads the Wildcats offense with a .316 AVG, nine home runs and driven in 40. Jack Kelley leads the pitching staff with 14 starts and 66.0 innings pitched on the year.
