HookC Faces ETSU For First Time On Diamond

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (26-20) takes a season-long six game win streak into a non-conference weekend at Elliot Ballpark against East Tennessee State (27-15). Friday's series opener begins at 3:05 p.m. with Saturday's middle game of the series at 2 p.m. and series finale on Sunday at 11 a.m. All three games can be seen on UConn+ for FREE and Saturday and Sunday's contest can be heard on 1410 AM WPOP.Â
The Huskies are coming off a weekend sweep at Georgetown and a road midweek victory at Rutgers on Tuesday. After not winning a one-run game all season, the Huskies have won back-to-back one-run ballgames.Â
UConn turns the the same weekend rotation that they've used all year with Cayden Suchy and Charlie West lead the BIG EAST Conference and are 7th and 21st nationally with 91 and 83Â strikeouts respectively. Eight of the last nine weekend starts have featured starts of at least seven innings of work including Oliver Pudvar throwing three-straight starts of 7.0 innings (3-0).Â
Charlie Hale leads the BIG EAST Conference with six wins this season and has collected a pair of saves. The RHP has a 2.65 ERA in 17 appearances and seven starts. The UConn pitching staff ranks No.43 in the country and first in the BIG EAST with a 4.46 ERA and 22nd in the nation with 3.49 walks per nine innings also leading the BIG EAST.Â
Jackson Marshall paces the offense with 70 hits (first in BIG EAST and T10 nationally) including a team-best 16 doubles, 12 home runs and has driven in 46 runs while hitting .383.
The UConn offense has exploded from a power stand point with 12 home runs in the last four games after hitting 39 home runs in the first 42 contests. The Huskies are 23rd in D1 with 97 doubles and lead the BIG EAST with 454 hits.Â
The Huskies and Buccaneers face off on the diamond for the first time this weekend. ETSU reached the NCAA Tournament last season after winning the SOCON. ETSU is in fourth place in the SOCON just 0.5 GB of first place (Wofford, Western Carolina and Samford). Berlin, Conn. native Jaime Palmeese returns home to Connecticut and is hitting .322 with 16 doubles, four homers and 36 RBI.Â
UConn head coach Jim Penders enters the weekend with a 799-516-5 (.607) record in his 23 years at the helm in Storrs.Â
