HookC Loses Opener Against ETSU

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (26-21) lost its series opener against ETSU (28-15), 14-7, on Friday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.Â
The Huskies gave up a six-run fourth inning and five run eighth inning to help the Buccaneers claim game one.
After going down 7-0 in the top of the fourth, the Huskies worked their way back into the game with an RBI single for Gabriel Tirado in the home half of the fourth.
In the fifth, Rob Rispoli delivered a two-run double as part of his three-hit effort on Friday. Tirado added an RBI ground out to cut the deficit to 7-4.Â
Joe Talarico pitched well out of the UConn bullpen with 1.2 shutout frames without allowing a hit and striking out a pair.Â
The score remained 7-4 until the top of the eighth when the Buccaneers loaded the bases with no outs. Frank Spirito IV then got a fielder's choice out at home plate and a strike out to try and manuever out of trouble. However a four-pitch walk and a routine ground ball to second was booted to open the flood gates and help extend the ETSU lead to 12-4.
Cam Righi hit his 10th home run of the year in the ninth and the Huskies snapped their six-game win streak, 14-7.
The series resumes on Saturday at 2:05 p.m.
