HookC Evens Series Against Creighton

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (16-16, 3-2 BIG EAST) evened up the weekend slate against Creighton (14-14, 1-1 BIG EAST) with an 11-2 victory on Friday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.
The UConn came alive on Friday with a season-high seven doubles including five of them from the bottom of the UConn order.Â
Trailing 1-0 in the third inning, Gabriel Tirado and Rob Rispoli opened the frame with back-to-back doubles to tie the game.Â
Tyler Minick put the Huskies in front in the frame with an RBI single to right field to score Rispoli.Â
LHP Cayden Suchy was superb on the hill for UConn, giving up a one-out solo homer to Teddy Deters in the first and then proceeded to retire the next 12 Bluejays including a stretch of seven-straight strikeouts.Â
The Sterling, Va. finished the day with 7.0 innings of work and secured his second-straight double digit strikeout game with 11.
UConn pulled away from the Bluejays in the seventh with a four-run frame. Evan Menzel smacked a two-run double to make it a 7-2 lead.
Maddix Dalena and Gabriel Tirado followed with back-to-back run scoring doubles to push the lead to 9-2.Â
Dalena capped the scoring an inning later with a two-run home run off the top of the video board in right center. It was the first home run of the year for Dalena.
The rubber game of the series will be on Saturday, April 4 at 10 a.m.Â
Game Notes
- Maddix Dalena hit his first home run of the season on Friday. It is his first home run since his two-run homer against Oklahoma in the NCAA Regional Final (June 3, 2024) that helped send UConn to the NCAA Super Regionals.
- The Huskies totaled seven doubles on Friday, the most for UConn since smacking seven doubles at St. John's on April 25, 2025.Â
- Maddix Dalena, Gabriel Tirado and Rob Rispoli combined to go 6-10 with five doubles, one home run, five runs scored and five runs batted in at the bottom of the order.
- Suchy is the first UConn pitcher to post back-to-back double digit strikeout games since Ian Cooke on April 12 & April 19 in 2024.Â
