PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The UConn baseball team (26-20) won its sixth-straight game with a 5-4 victory against Rutgers (22-23) on Tuesday afternoon at Bainton Field.
Staten Island, N.Y. natives Chris Polemeni and Chris each homered in the victory with Polemeni drilling a two-out three-run home run in the fourth to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead. It is the seventh home run of the season for Polemeni.
Cancel swatted his first home run of the season with an opposite field home run to lead off the seventh and push the UConn lead to 4-2.Â
Cam Righi added a key RBI single later in the seventh that proved to be the game-winning run.Â
With the Huskies up 5-4 and runners at first and second and two outs in the ninth, Paxton Meyers notched his fifth save of the year by punching out Chase Krewson to end the ballgame.
Next up, UConn hosts East Tennessee State at Elliot Ballpark with a three-game series beginning on Friday, May 1.Â
