HookC Battle For First Place Vs. St. John's

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (20-18, 6-3 BIG EAST) hosts a battle for first place in the BIG EAST standings with St. John's (18-18, 5-1 BIG EAST) coming to Elliot Ballpark for a three-game set. Friday's series opener begins at 6:05 p.m. with the middle game of the series at 2 p.m. on Saturday and the series finale on Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
The Huskies have won each of their first three BIG EAST series against Xavier, Creighton and Butler to open conference play. St. John's have opened league play with a three-game sweep against Seton Hall and a series win against Georgetown.Â
Liam O'Leary leads the St. John's pitching staff with four wins (T3rd BIG EAST) and a 2.97 ERA (4th in BIG EAST) while Adam Agresti is second in the conference with 14 home runs and leads the league with 38 runs batted in.Â
UConn ranks 17th in the country with 82 doubles entering action this weekend with Jackson Marshall leading the way with 13 doubles along with leading the Huskies with 10 home runs, .362 average and 33 runs batted in. Cayden Suchy leads the Huskies on the hill with a 2.45Â ERA and paces the BIG EAST with 75 strikeouts.Â
The Huskies lead the all-time series against the Johnnies 72-61 with UConn sweeping the series in Queens last series. It was the first time in program history that the Huskies swept a three-game series at St. John's.
Pitching matchups for the weekend will be Charlie West vs. Liam O'Leary on Friday, Cayden Suchy vs. Evan Chaffee on Saturday and Oliver Pudvar against Ian Mowad.Â
