INDIANAPOLIS - The UConn baseball team (19-17, 5-3 BIG EAST) captured a 3-1 win to even up its series against Butler (13-21, 4-1 BIG EAST) on a complete game performance for LHP Cayden Suchy on Saturday afternoon at Bulldog Park.Â
The sophomore out of Sterling, Va. retired the final 19 batters he faced after allowing a two-out RBI single in the third to earn his third win of the season.Â
Suchy allowed just three hits, did not walk a batter and struck out 11 in the complete game effort.Â
The Huskies got him all the runs he would need with a three-run fifth inning. Rob Rispoli led off the frame with his 100th career hit, a single through the left side to start the rally. Chris Polemeni followed with a one-out single to move Rispoli to third. Freshman Cam Righi quickly tied the game with an RBI single to right.Â
After a throwing error from the Butler catcher on a steal attempt for Cam Righi made it 2-1, Jackson Marshall doubled into the left field corner to push the lead to 3-1.Â
Suchy was in full command of his pitches on Saturday and became the first UConn pitcher to register a complete game since Stephen Quigley did so against Rutgers on March 24, 2024.Â
The Huskies and Bulldogs will play for the series on Sunday, April 12 at 12 p.m.
Game Notes
