Huskies Beaten by No. 23 Georgetown on Saturday

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Â The UConn women's lacrosse team (3-7, 0-2 BIG EAST)Â was defeated by the No. 23 Georgetown Hoyas (7-3, 2-0 BIG EAST) by a score of 18-7 on Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field.
How it Happened:
Georgetown got off to a quick start, scoring the first four goals to take a 4-0 lead with 8:31 left in the first quarter. Rayea Davis got the Huskies on the board with a free-position goal, but the Hoyas responded with two quick goals to extend the lead to 6-1. Ava Plata converted on an assist from Karsyn Burnash with 2:23 left in the quarter to cut the lead to 6-2. Georgetown's Reagan Ziegeler answered on a free-position rebound to push the Hoya lead back to five at the end of the first quarter.'
Davis scored her second of the afternoon, cutting through the Georgetown defense to bring the Huskies within four at 7-3. The Hoyas tacked on two more goals to take a 9-3 halftime lead.
Less than a minute into the second half, Davis capped off the hat trick to cut the deficit to five at 9-4. McKenna Merkel converted on the free-position in response to a Hoya goal, keeping UConn within striking distance at 10-5 with 5:26 left in the third. Davis and Hadley Bethke each scored goals, pushing Georgetown into a timeout with the Huskies trailing only 10-7 with 2:50 left in the third. Sophia Loschert answered with a goal for Georgetown, stretching the lead back to four at 11-7 with 1:05 left in the third.
Loschert and Gracie Diggs tacked on goals in the fourth quarter to pad the Hoya lead to 13-7 with 11:31 remaining. The Hoyas rattled off five more goals in the fourth to secure the double-digit home victory.
Numbers and Notes:
- UConn won the draw control battle 14-13.
- Oximana had 10 saves, her fourth instance of notching double-digit stops
- The four goals scored by Davis were tied a season-high (2/11 at Fairfield)
Up Next: After five straight road games, UConn returns home to face Villanova on Wednesday, April 1st at Morrone Stadium. Opening draw is scheduled for 3:00pm.
