No. 5 Huskies Dominate Merrimack

STORRS, Conn. – No. 5 UConn women's hockey defeated Merrimack, 8-1 on Friday afternoon at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. Seven different Huskies scored as UConn extended their winning streak to six straight games, improving to 11-1-1 in Hockey East play and 18-3-2 overall this season.
UConn goaltender Tia Chan was stout throughout the game, making 24 saves in the win.
The first period began with UConn gaining the initial advantage with a goal by Meghane Duchesne-Chalifoux, her third of the season. The Huskies maintained offensive pressure for the remainder of the period, which paid off when Emma Eryou scored just three minutes later, doubling the UConn lead, 2-0. Merrimack had several opportunities but was repeatedly denied by UConn's defense and Chan. UConn closed out the first period holding a 2–0 lead, with shots favoring the Huskies, 20-10.
Megan Woodworth extended UConn's lead just 20 seconds into the second period with her team-leading 10th goal of the season. Six minutes later, Merrimack was called for tripping, the lone penalty in the game. Livvy Dewar capitalized on a rebound in the crease just ten seconds into the power play for the Huskies 15th power play goal this season, making it 4–0. With ten minutes remaining in the second period, Maya Serdachny added her fourth goal of the season with help from Claire Murdoch and Ashley Allard. Three minutes later, Dewar struck again for her sixth goal of the season, and her first career multi-goal effort, bringing the score to 6–0.
Merrimack scored their lone goal of the game 100 seconds after UConn's sixth goal. The second period closed at 6–1 with the Huskies leading in shots 18-13.
Junior goaltender Shannon Moran made her first appearance of the season, substituting in for Chan with just under ten minutes remaining in the third period. Moran finished with two saves.
Christina Walker extended UConn's lead early in the third period with her third goal of the season, making it 7-0. UConn maintained their offensive pressure on the Warriors throughout the third period, resulting in Julia Pellerin netting her ninth goal of the season with three minutes left in the game. UConn's defense and goaltending kept Merrimack scoreless in the period, sealing an 8–1 victory. The eight goals are the most the Huskies have recorded in a game under head coach Chris MacKenzie.
The Huskies outshot Merrimack 50–27, demonstrating offensive control throughout the game. On special teams, UConn capitalized on its lone power play opportunity, going 1-for-1, while Merrimack did not have any power play chances. This marks the Huskies third game this season without committing a penalty. In the faceoff circle, the Huskies held a 31–23 advantage, contributing to sustained puck possession.
