WSOC Opens 2025 Season vs. Stony Brook

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team opens the 2025 season on Sunday, August 17 with a 7 p.m. match at Morrone Stadium against Stony Brook. Fans should be aware that this year there will be $10 (cash only) parking in I Lot (adjacent to the stadium).Â
The Huskies are coming off a 14-win season in 2024 that saw the team win the BIG EAST Tournament Championship and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. Chioma Okafor led the team with 14 goals and 30 points, earning United Coaches Third Team All-American honors for the second-straight season.
The senior from Blantyre, Malawi returns for her final year in Storrs alongside fellow senior captains Anna Carson, Kelly Monaco and Abbey Merchant. Okafor was named BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year and was named to the Mac Hermann Trophy Watch List.Â
Midfielder Anaya Johnson joins Okafor on the Preseason All-BIG EAST team after scoring two goals and three assists in 2024. Johnson scored in the Huskies NCAA Second Round loss to No. 14 Stanford last year.Â
Carson and Monaco lock down a veteran back line that will feature incoming Utah State transfer Kaitlyn Richins. Richins comes in after being named a TopDrawer Soccer Third Team All-American and Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year in 2024. Freshman Ines Nourani joins the back line with experience playing for the Canadian U-20 National Team.Â
The UConn defense will also feature incoming transfer Riley Prozzo (Boston College), Lydia LeBlanc, Jessica Carr and Morgan Mooney.
They defense will start the season helping out freshman goalkeeper Ava Yamas. Yamas enters the UConn program from IMG Academy. Junior Elizabeth DiBlasi and sophomore Syrai Parker will also be options in net.Â
The UConn midfield will consist of Johnson and Merchant along with sophomore Taylor Jenkins, freshman Maree-Anne Van Doesburg, incoming Rutgers transfer Gabby Miller, sophomore Kileigh Gorman and freshmen Tiana Righetti and Rosie Lifrieri.
Up top, incoming Kansas State transfer Farrah Stephens-Martin joins Okafor and returning veteran forwards Lina Dantes and Alayna Taylor. Naia Ocio and Lexi Taylor will also factor in alongside Se-Hanna Mars, Bella Meadows and freshman Kalina Fraser.Â
