Mary Hearin Hired As WSOC Associate Head Coach

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team has announced the hiring of Mary Hearin as their new associate head coach.Â
Hearin joins the Huskies after spending four years at UMass as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.Â
During the 2024 season, Hearin helped the Minutewomen achieve the most wins since the 2011 season (14) after finishing the year with a 13-5-3 overall record. After earning a 6-2-2 mark in the Atlantic 10 Conference, UMass was seeded No. 3 in the A-10 Championships, hosting the quarterfinals round for the second consecutive year and 21st appearance in the A-10 Tournament. The Minutewomen defeated No. 6 Loyola Chicago to advance to the A-10 Semifinals, reaching for the first time since the 2021 season. A late goal by Emma Pedolzky aided Massachusetts to the A-10 Championship Finals with the last time being in 2021, when the Minutewomen were also A-10 Runner-Ups. Massachusetts also finished the 2024 regular season ranked No. 42 in the RPI rankings.
Additionally, Hearin saw senior Bella Recinos tabbed as the A-10 Midfielder of the Year honor for the second straight year, becoming the first Minutewomen in program history achieve the feat in back-to-back years, while also becoming the first A-10 player to collect the award in consecutive seasons since Dayton's Nicole Waters (2014-15). She also aided in coaching the 11th, 12th and 13th Minutewomen in Recinos (First Team), graduate student Ella Curry (Third Team) and senior Ashley Lamond (Third Team) to A-10 All-Conference honors. Recinos and Curry landed on the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region First and Third Team, respectively, while six members of the program tabbed spots on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.Â
Prior to her time at UMass, Hearin was the associate head coach at the University of Delaware for one season in 2022.Â
At Delaware, Hearin assisted the head coach with all aspects of operation and coaching, where she coached four All-CAA Conference honorees. There, she aided with travel, pre- and post-season conditioning activities, gameday procedures, monitoring and coordinating student-athletes academics with the team's academic advisors, training, player evaluation and national and international recruitment of student-athletes. Hearin also helped with creating individual development plans for all 28 players on the roster and designed, organized, and administered weekly individual and small group training sessions.
Prior to her time with the Blue Hens, Hearin spent seven seasons as an assistant coach for the NJIT women's soccer team. In 2018, the coaching staff was recognized as the Atlantic Sun (ASUN) Coaching Staff of the Year, while the team set a season record for both wins and shutouts.
Hearin spent several years as a head coach for a variety of U16, U17 and U18 teams, including FC Copa Academy, PSA Wildcats and Freestate Soccer Alliance. She was a graduate assistant coach from 2007-08 at UMBC, before moving to an assistant coach position for the 2008-09 season. Hearin also was an assistant coach for the ECNL U13-U18 Teams for three years for the Maryland United Football Club, and for the girls' varsity soccer team at the McDonogh School for three seasons.

Hearin played collegiate soccer at UMBC, where she was three-time captain. She was also a member of the America East All-Championship Team, America East All-Conference Second Team and America East All-Rookie Team. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in History in 2006.
