#4 UConn Welcomes UMass Lowell To Hartford

HARTFORD Â - The No. 4 UConn men's basketball team (1-0) is back on action on Friday night to make its regular season debut at PeoplesBank Arena. The Huskies will host UMass Lowell (1-0) for a 7:30 p.m. tip downtown. The contest will air on Peacock with John Fanta and Donny Marshall calling the action.

Connecticut opened its 123rd season of men's basketball on Monday night with a 79-55 win over New Haven. Alex Karaban led four Huskies in double figures with game-highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds to record his third career double-double, followed closely atop the scoresheet by Solo Ball who scored 18 and nabbed five rebounds.
UConn was tabbed fourth in the preseason AP Top 25 and recently saw five players earn spots on the preseason watch lists for the Naismith "Starting Five" positional awards: Silas Demary Jr. (Cousy), Ball (West), Braylon Mullins (Erving), Karaban (Malone) and Tarris Reed Jr. (Abdul-Jabbar). Ball and Karaban were named to the preseason watch list for the Jersey Mike's Naismith Player of the Year Award earlier this week.
Friday night will mark the third all-time meeting between UConn and UMass Lowell. The two sides first met in Hartford on Dec. 20, 2015, an 88-79 triumph behind Rodney Purvis' 28 points. They last battled in year one of the Dan Hurley era, a 97-75 decision for the Huskies on Nov. 27, 2018. Christian Vital and Jalen Adams both had 19 for the Huskies, while Alterique Gilbert and Josh Carlton added 15 apiece.
The River Hawks were picked fourth in the America East preseason poll and received one first place vote. Lowell opened the season on Monday with a 107-55 win over Rivier. Austin Green led UML with 21 points and 13 rebounds. The River Hawks shot 60.0 percent for the game and recorded 60 paint points.
The Huskies will return to action and conclude a season-opening three-game homestand on Monday, Nov. 10 against Columbia on campus.
