11/7/2025 11:24:00 PM | Men's Basketball
HARTFORD – The No. 4 UConn men's basketball team (2-0) completely dominated UMass Lowell (1-1) by way of a 110-47 decision on Friday night at a sold-out PeoplesBank Arena. The Huskies set the program record by racing out to a 47-point halftime lead and had seven players score in double-figures in the rout.
Tarris Reed Jr. made his season debut for the Huskies and it could not have gone much better, as the senior big man finished 17 minutes of play with 20 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks on 9-of-12 shooting for his 11th career double-double. Silas Demary Jr. added 16 points, seven assists and four steals while Solo Ball (14), Malachi Smith (14), Alex Karaban (13), Eric Reibe (11) and Jaylin Stewart (10) also finished with double-digits.
The Huskies opened the game on a blistering 44-3 run and did not allow a field goal for over 13 minutes of game action. UConn shot over 60 percent on the day for the first time since Feb. 10, 2024 and held UMass Lowell under 25 percent.
How it Happened
The Huskies jumped ahead quick, scoring the first 11 points of regulation with Reed Jr. breaking the ice on UConn's first trip with a putback. Ahead of the first media timeout Ball and Karaban splashed back-to-back 3-pointers and UConn took a 17-1 edge to the first timeout at 15:18 of the opening stanza.
Minutes later, Smith rattled off a personal 9-0 run to put the Huskies up 26-2 with 13:10 to play in the first. The Huskies kept their foot on the throttle in full for the opening 20 minutes, opening up an absurd 44-3 lead with a Jayden Ross steal-and-score before a UML timeout at 7:37. The Huskies would go on to take a 64-17 lead to the break, shooting 68.6 percent in the first half and holding the River Hawks to 12.0 percent.
The second half featured more of the same. Reed Jr. polished off his double-double with his 10th board at the 10:50 mark of the frame. Both sides subbed liberally late, allowing for the official UConn debuts of Rrezon Elezaj and Uroš Paunovic.
