Softball picks up fifth straight win

HONOLULU, Hawaii – UConn softball defeated Cleveland State, 6-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Hope Jenkins earned her second start of the season in the circle for the Huskies. She tossed a gem for the Huskies pitching six scoreless innings, matching her career high in strikeouts with eight.
The Huskies opened the scoring in the third inning as Grace Jenkins hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Savannah Ring from third base.
Rosie Garcia broke the game open for the Huskies in the fifth inning with a three run home run to left field, her second homer of the season putting the Huskies in the driver's seat at 4-0.
The Huskies added an insurance run in the sixth inning as Kaitlyn Kibling capitalized on a Cleveland State error, coming around to score from second base.
UConn added another run in the seventh inning as Garcia drove in her fourth run of the day, doubling to left field, scoring pinch runner Caylee De Meo.
Delaney Nagy came on in relief for Jenkins in the seventh inning making her second appearance of the season, closing out the Huskies fifth straight win.

UConn will close out the Rainbow Wahine Classic on Sunday as they are set to play Cleveland State again. First pitch is set for 6:00pm EST.
