WTEN Splits Road Trip, Upends Butler in Comeback Win

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team split the weekend road trip with a setback against DePaul in Chicago and then a bounce back match against Butler to win 4-3 at the Butler Bubble on Saturday afternoon.
We were excited to get on the road and play DePaul and Butler, two very big conference matches," said tennis head coach Glenn Marshall. "We hadn't played DePaul since we've been back in the Big East, and they are one of the top teams in the conference. We played some good doubles, and had several 3 set singles matches, but they were a bit stronger than us down the stretch. After only a short night's rest, we drove down to play Butler to play in a morning match. We started a little slow in doubles and dropped the doubles point. Going into singles down 1-0, we knew we had to have great starts in our first 4 singles matches that went out. Their facility only had 4 courts. We won the first set in 3 of our top 4 singles matches, to set the tone. From there, we rallied and won at #1, 3, and 4 singles. The match came down to Cameron at #5 singles, and she stepped up huge with the win to clinch the match 4-3. Overall, a very good comeback victory today over a strong Butler squad."
Sophomore Cameron Didion rose to the occasion to help the Huskies at the fifth singles position with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 victory. Junior Olivia Wright continued her strong singles play at the first singles spot going 6-2, 4-6, 6-0. Wright's singles record now stands at 6-4.
