WTEN Secures Tough Win Over Sacred Heart

MANCHESTER, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team bested Sacred Heart by a score of 5-2 at home at Magic Lincer Tennis Club Thursday afternoon.
The Huskies are now 7-4 overall. UConn fell in doubles play, dropping the doubles point at the first and third doubles positions. Then, the Huskies bounced back in singles play, rattling off five singles wins.
"This was a nice win over a tough Sacred Heart team today," said tennis head coach Glenn Marshall. "We started out losing the doubles point which was very close. We split at number 2 and 3 doubles, and it came down to number one with Liv and Maria. That's where we lost a tough tiebreaker 7-6, and Sacred Heart had some momentum going into the singles matches. Thankfully we had great starts on 5 courts, and the momentum started to shift our way. We continued playing strong and confident, and all 5 of those courts went on to win in straight sets. Olivia lost a hard battle at number 1 in three sets. It was a nice come from behind win today. I was pleased how we responded today after we lost the close doubles point.
Freshman Caroline Hinshaw earned the clinch at the fourth singles spot prevailing to a 6-0, 6-4 victory, adding to her singles win column with seven combined singles wins at the third, fourth, and fifth singles positions. Hinshaw and her partner, Isabel Petri Bere also won in doubles at the second and third doubles spots, winning 6-3.
