Huskies Fall Short to Rutgers Sunday

MANCHESTER, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team fell short to Big 10 opponent Rutgers with a score of 5-2 at home Sunday afternoon.

The Huskies are now 5-3 overall. UConn started out hot earning the doubles point and winning at second and first doubles. Then, after the first singles point was won by junior Olivia Wright, Rutgers went on to take the other five points.

"This was a really close match against a tough Big 10 opponent," said tennis head coach Glenn Marshall. "We continued our good play in doubles with wins at #1 and #2. All of our doubles teams played well, and we went into singles with some momentum. In singles, Olivia had a great win at #1 in straight sets. All the other matches were close, with 3 matches going 3 sets. Our team played at a very high level, but Rutgers was a little bit tougher down the stretch in the close matches. I was very pleased with our effort and fight today, we never backed down and fought until the end."

Wright would extend her singles record to 5-3 at first singles and 3-1 at first doubles with junior teammate Maria Constantinou.
