WTEN Set for Two BIG EAST Matchups This Weekend

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team is set for two matchups in BIG EAST play against DePaul and Butler on the road on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24.
The Huskies enter the matchups 5-3 overall and 0-1 in conference action. Last time out, UConn took a 5-2 win over Stony Brook and fell short to a tough Rutgers team 5-2 last weekend. Leading the way are juniors Olivia Wright and Maria Constantinou as they both were awarded BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week. Wright and Constantinou boast a 3-1 doubles record at the first doubles position. Wright has a first singles record of 5-3 and Constantinou has a second singles record of 4-2 this season.
Scouting DePaul and Butler
Entering the matchups, the DePaul Blue Demons are 6-5 overall and they have yet to face a conference opponent this season. Last time out, DePaul squeezed by Illinois State by a score of 4-3 last Sunday. Leading the way for the Blue Demons is Hannah Smith with a first singles record of 4-1 and a first doubles record with teammate Greta Carbone of 5-2.
UConn has not faced DePaul since 2012 when the Huskies fell to the Blue Demons 7-0. The Huskies are 0-2 in all-time matchups against DePaul.
The Butler Bulldogs stand at 8-4 overall and 1-0 in BIG EAST play. Last time out, the Bulldogs fell to Notre Dame 4-0 last Sunday. Leading the way for Butler is Delaney Shurhamer with a 7-3 singles record at the first and second singles spot. In doubles, Shurhamer is 6-3 at the first and second doubles positions with teammate Jordan Schildcrout.
UConn faced Butler last season winning 5-2. That was the Huskies' first matchup all-time against the Bulldogs.
