Softball set for home opener this weekend against Seton Hall

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team (10-6) kicks off their BIG EAST slate this weekend, as they welcome the Seton Hall Pirates (7-7) to Burrill Family Field for a three game series. All games will be streamed for free on UConn+. Buy tickets HERE.
The UConn pitching staff has had a strong start to the 2023 campaign with three pitchers in double digit strikeouts. As a staff they hold a 4.34 era, holding opponents to a .218 batting average. Freshman Hope Jenkins has been a steady presence in the circle for the Huskies. In 45.2 innings pitched she has a 5-1 record and a staff high 35 strikeouts.
The UConn lineup has been rolling to start the season as five Huskies are batting over .300. Graduate senior Aziah James has been a steady presence in the lineup holding a .327 batting average, with a .389 on base percentage, driving in five runs. So far this season, she is 13-13 on stolen bases, ranking thirteenth in the country in stolen bases per game at 0.81.
Seton Hall is coming into the weekend winners in three out of their last five games, including a win at Texas Tech. The Pirates are led by sophomore Taylor Hill who was named BIG EAST freshman of the year last year, also making the All-BIG EAST first team.
