STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team (11-6) kicked off their BIG EAST slate with a run rule win over Seton Hall, 8-0 in five innings.

Hope Jenkins started on the mound for the Huskies going all five innings only giving up one hit with four strikeouts. After getting out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning, Jenkins cruised through the Pirates lineup retiring 12 out of the last 13 batters.

The Huskies offense was active early and often, scoring in three out of the four innings they batted in. After a pair of walks in the first inning, Jana Sanden hit a three run homer, her third long ball of the year to give the Huskies an early 3-0 lead.

UConn extended their lead in the second inning to five. Haley Coupal drove in her eighth RBI of the season with a double to bring home Kaitlyn Kibling. Coupal came around to score on a double by Savannah Ring giving UConn a 5-0 lead. Ring extends her hitting streak to four games while driving in her seventh run of the year.

The Huskies put the game out of reach in the fourth inning scoring three runs on five hits. Sanden knocked in her third run of the day with a double down the left field line to score Aziah James. UConn loaded the bases for Taylor Zatyk who brought in two runs with a double to left center, putting her total to eighth runs batted in on the season.

The Huskies will close out the series on Sunday with a doubleheader against the Pirates. UConn's originally scheduled game for Saturday morning has been postponed to Sunday due to expected incoming weather tomorrow. All tickets for the originally scheduled Saturday game will be transferable to Sunday's games.
