Storrs, Conn. - The University of Connecticut Swimming and Diving Team defeated the Georgetown Hoyas Friday afternoon 175-125. The teams competed in front of a loud natatorium crowd with allegiances nearly evenly split between.Â
The Hoyas took momentum early winning the first five events. Of note, UConn swimmer Niamh Hofland led in the 1000y Freestyle before a mid-race disqualification. The Huskies wouldn't be slowed; however, as the team fed off of a pair of strong wins by Freshman Olivia Herbert in the 200y Butterfly and Junior Maggie Donlevy in the 50y Freestyle. Niamh would get a chance to showcase her speed later taking first by a comfortable margin in the 500y Freestyle. An exciting and narrow come-from-behind win in the 400y Freestyle Relay sealed the meet victory for the Huskies at an even fifty point margin.Â
Of the meet's impact, Coach Chris Maiello said, "Todays meet was good for the team in a few different ways, atmosphere, toughness, and resiliency are important to us. We observed these characteristics today. Credit our team - including our diving group, for their work so far this season. Now we need to learn from the competition and move on."
Up Next - The Huskies return to the pool tomorrow morning hosting Villanova for the second of two conference meets this weekendÂ
