Huskies place 2nd in opening meet of the season

STORRS, Conn. —The UConn swimming and diving team placed 2nd in their first meet of the season vs Marist University and ARMY on Thursday, September 24th in West Point, New York.
The Huskies fought hard in their first meet of the season, with 16 top 3 finishes and 4 1st place finishes. The Huskies were able to put together a solid performance but ultimately came up short to Army with a score of 779 to 1003.
Bella Hoffman, Kate Van Ryn, and Sydney Perkins each delivered 1st place finishes in their own events, as well as the 6x100 freestyle relay team of Cara McDonald, Mia Hatzis, Kate Van Ryn, and Kiersten O'Connor placing 1st as well.
"It was great to get back to racing and seeing the team in an ultra competitive environment" said head coach Chris Maiello on the opening performance. "We do have a lot of things we need to work on, including some transitions in details in the start and turn areas. Overall it was a good meet for us to start the season and points to positive things to come."
UConn will now look ahead and prepare for their next meet, where they are set to face Villanova on Saturday, October 17th at 12 PM at Villanova University.
