WTEN with Successful Outing at Brown Invite

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team wrapped up action Sunday night at the Brown Invite with strong results in a blind duals match format.
The Huskies faced four teams in a nine-team field in the three-day invitational and went up against Rhode Island, Boston University, Yale, and North Carolina-Wilmington. Overall, UConn posted a 22-18 singles and doubles record along with 16 matches won against Rhode Island and North Carolina-Wilmington out of the 21 matches played. As Boston University and Yale put up a fight nailing down 10 singles points, the Huskies kept it close knocking in the clinching doubles point in both matches.
On top of that, first doubles pair, Olivia Wright and Victoria Matos put up a 3-1 doubles record on the weekend which was highlighted with a commanding 6-1 win over a tough BU squad. On the singles side, Matos had a 3-1 singles record including a three-set victory over Yale, which would be the lone singles point for the Huskies.
"This was a very good tournament with nine teams," Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall said. "It was a blind dual format, and we were able to get 4 matches in over the weekend. We had some very good success over URI and UNC-W, winning 16 out of 21 matches. We had super close matches with Yale and BU, winning the doubles point in each of those matches. Overall a very good weekend of match play and I was very pleased with how we played."

The Huskies have their final fall invitational tournament at the Elon Invite for a three-day event starting on Friday, Oct. 27 in Elon, N.C.
