SB drops final 2 games of the Carolina Classic

Chapel Hill, NC – UConn Softball loses two tough games on the final day at the Carolina Classic.
Elise Sokolsky got the start on the mound for the Huskies in game one against the Ducks. She went six innings striking out three.
Oregon would open the scoring in the first. The Huskies responded in the second off the bat of Senior Sami Barnett. She hit a solo shot, her third of the year tying the game at one.
The Ducks scored two runs in the third giving them a 3-1 lead. The Huskies would once again respond in the bottom half with a run on a double by Rosie Garcia scoring Briana Marcelino bringing the Huskies to within one.
Oregon extended their lead with a run in the fourth, fifth, and sixth to make it 6-2. Garcia hit a solo homer in the sixth to trim the deficit to 6-3.
Delaney Nagy came in relief in the sixth, pitching one inning with one strikeout.
The Ducks scored three runs in the sixth to close the game out at 9-3.
In the second game of Sunday's doubleheader, the Huskies came up just short against the North Carolina Tar Heels.
The Tar Heels opened the scoring early, scoring six in the first inning. They scored another run in the fourth making it 7-0.
Sokolsky came in relief for Meghan for O'Neil. She pitched 4.1 innings notching two strikeouts.
The UConn offense exploded in the fifth scoring six runs. Aziah James kick started the offense with an RBI single to left to put UConn on the board. Marcelino would deliver a big two run double to put the Huskies back in it at 7-3. Garcia singled to right, scoring Marcelino. Jana Sanden would deliver the big hit for the Huskies with a two-run shot making it a one run ballgame.
The Tar Heels got a run back in the fifth making it 8-6. Marybeth Olson came in for Sokolsky in the sixth, pitching one inning for the Huskies.
UConn wouldn't go down quietly. Garcia would hit a solo shot in the seventh making it 8-7. The Huskies fought until the end but could not get the tying run across.
UConn will look forward to the upcoming weekend as they open BIG EAST Conference play at St. John's.
