MALIBU, Calif. - The UConn baseball team (10-1) rattled off its ninth-straight victory with a 6-2 triumph at Pepperdine on Friday afternoon at Eddy Field Stadium.

With the game scoreless entering the sixth inning, UConn first baseman Ben Huber powered a grand slam to left center field to break the stalemate. It was the first career home run for the Pendleton, S.C. native.

Zach Bushling led off the sixth with a single and advanced to third on a Casey Dana double off the left field fence. T.C. Simmons followed with a walk to load the bases and set the scene for Huber.

Starting pitcher Austin Peterson was excellent with seven solid innings of work that featured his fourth straight double digit strikeout game. The Chesterton, Ind. native escaped a couple jams in the first and second innings before settling into the ballgame. At one point, Peterson retired 10 batters in a row.

In the eighth, the Huskies added key insurance runs with an RBI single from Kevin Ferrer and RBI double from Matt Donlan.

Pepperdine cut the deficit to 6-2, but freshman Ian Cooke was able to settle things down. The New Milford, Conn. native struck out three in two scoreless innings.

The Huskies move to 10-1 on the year and will look to take the series on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT.

Game Notes

The Huskies have won its first eight true road games of the season. With records dating back to 1961, it is possibly the first time in program history that UConn has won its first eight true road games of a season.
Ben Huber's grand slam was the first runs scored in the sixth inning this season for the Huskies.
Erik Stock extended his hit streak to 22 games with his first inning double.
The Huskies are 4-0 on Fridays this season.
