SB falls to James Madison in Charlotte Invitational finale

CHARLOTTE, NC – The UConn softball team (3-6) fell to James Madison 11-5 in the final game of the Charlotte Invitational.

Junior Meghan O'Neil started in the circle for the Huskies pitching 2.1 innings giving up four runs on four hits. Freshman Delaney Nagy would come in for O'Neil in the third inning pitching 2.1 innings giving up five runs on six hits.

Sophomore Jana Sanden gave the Huskies an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a two-run shot to left field, her first of the year. The Dukes would quickly respond in the second with a two run homer of their own tying the game at two.

The Huskies battled back with a solo shot off the bat of grad transfer Erika Coreth, her first of the 2022 campaign. The Dukes would once again take the lead in the third scoring four runs on four hits making it 6-3. JMU would score three more in the fifth giving them a 9-3 lead.

Freshman Elise Sokolsky would come in relief of Nagy pitching 2.1 innings only letting up two runs on three hits with three strikeouts.

Coreth would deliver once again for the Huskies in the sixth scoring Sami Barnett and Reese Guevarra on a single to center. The Dukes however, would again respond with two runs in the seventh making the score 11-5.

The Huskies move to 3-6 on the young season. They will be in action next weekend at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, SC.
